Biography

Derrick Watkins is the Director of Training for a non-profit, community-based correctional program designed to help reduce and prevent criminal activity. His life story is an impressive testament to focusing the power of positive thinking upon oneself, a recipe where success often triumphs over poverty, fear of rejection, self-doubt, and family addictions. Derrick shares his captivating story of rising from a three-bedroom apartment in a Housing project to become a human-achievement specialist and face-to-face communicator, providing the inspiration for thousands to resist the temptations of a life filled with drugs, alcohol, and crime.

His impressive journey of success over numerous personal obstacles uniquely qualifies him as an expert in the area of human achievement and conflict management. His story and the dynamic way he shares it, demonstrates the true power of focused willpower over obstacles.

Derrick is a Certified Trainer for the Mediation Training Institute where he teaches audiences how to move from "Conflict to Cooperation." Derrick has a Masters degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. Among his many activities, he is also a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Certified Practitioner and an active member of the National Speakers Association and A Vision in Motion.
