The Magic on Canvas
This is one of Paul's favorite oil paintings that he has created while a senior in high school. His art teacher, Joanne Vona, encouraged Paul to develop his own creative expression and apply it to canvas, and here is the result. The painting itself is about 6.5 feet in length and 4.5 feet in height, and is quite an eye-catching sight on the wall!
During his Arts in Education program, Paul describes how he spent nine months to create this painting. Because Mrs. Vona had no wooden frames of the size required for the painting, she asked the Industrial Arts department at his high school to actually construct a wooden frame for the canvas. Paul first penciled a grid of squares across a magazine photograph of the Porsche, and then penciled a larger grid of squares on the blank white canvas. He first sketched on the canvas what he saw in each square on the actual photograph. When the sketch was complete a few months later, he was ready to apply paint to finish the painting.
